Mission

The introduction of invasive species into the U.S. or other countries has increased as result of the global commerce and rapid movement of commodities, causing major ecological disturbance and economic losses to agricultural producers, homeowners, and land managers. Most invasive species lack of their natural enemies, consequently, specific natural enemies released in a new habitat can restore the ecological balance. The successful implementation of the mission will produce self-sustaining and biologically based management technologies to control invasive pest species.

The main mission of SABCL is:

  • Find, evaluate, and ship to the United States or other cooperator countries biological control agents against selected insect pests and weeds.

  • Communicate and publish the results of the investigations.

  • Provide guidance and logistic support to scientists conducting investigations on biological control in Argentina.

  • Liaison with local and foreign agricultural research agencies and universities for general formalities and for detecting areas of potential cooperative work.
